Prior to his transfer back to the National Police, Firli was under investigation for an alleged ethics violation.
he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) confirmed that the National Police recalled high-ranking police officer Insp. Gen. Firli from his position as the antigraft body’s law enforcement deputy.
KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah said the commission received a letter from National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian on June 11 requesting that the antigraft body return Firli to the force. The request was made following the police’s new assignment and career development plan for the two-star general, the request letter said.
“After being deliberated by the commissioners, the KPK responded by returning Firli [to the force], as written in our letter to the National Police on June 19,” Febri said on Thursday in a statement.
National Police spokesperson Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo confirmed the request. “The force assigned Firli to become the new South Sumatra Police chief,” Dedi said on Friday, as quoted by Antara.

Firli left his position at the KPK roughly a year after he was inaugurated as the agency’s law enforcement chief in April last year. He filled the post left vacant by Comr. Gen. Hery Winarko, who was appointed head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN). He previously served as the West Nusa Tenggara Police chief between February 2017 and April 2018.
In September last year, Firli’s name made headlines as he was suspected of violating the KPK’s code of ethics for playing tennis with former West Nusa Tenggara governor M.Zainul Majdi, aka Tuan Guru Bajang (TGB).
