lag carrier Garuda Indonesia announced it is relocating the destination and departure of some planes it flies to and from I Gusti Ngurah Rai airport in Denpasar, Bali, from Husein Sastranegara International Airport in Bandung to the newer Kertajati International Airport in Majalengka, West Java.
Officially, the relocation of flights from Husein Satranegara to Kertajadi, which was announced by state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura (AP) II last month, is to start on July 1.
“We have carried out intensive coordination with all stakeholders to ensure smooth service at Kertajati Airport,” said Garuda Indonesia operational director Bambang Adisurya Angkasa in a statement received by The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
Bambang also called on passengers who were to fly from Kertajadi Airport to leave home earlier than usual to anticipate adjustments to the service at the airport and a longer trip to get there, as it is located 98 kilometers from Bandung.
To get to the airport, Bambang said the airport operator had prepared buses operated by state-owned bus operator Damri and also other operators would offered discounted fares.
“Garuda hopes the services at Kertajati Airport would be optimized, particularly the access to the airport so that passengers will have various options [to reach it],” Bambang said.
Garuda Indonesia is to serve the Kertajati-Denpasar route with a 162-seat Boeing 737-800 NG.
The plane takes off from Kertajati at 6:20 a.m. Indonesia western time and lands at I Gusti Ngurah Rai airport in Denpasar at 9:05 a.m. Indonesia central time, while from Denpasar, the plane takes off at 1:20 p.m. and arrives in Majalengka at 2:15 p.m. (bbn)
