No sign of military's MI-17 helicopter after four days

Cendrawasih Military Command deputy spokesperson said he did not want to speculate about what may have happened to the helicopter, but that he was almost certain it had landed somewhere.

he continuing search for an MI-17 helicopter, with which contact was lost on Friday in Oksibil, Pegunungan Bintang regency, has so far be fruitless despite the fine weather.

“Up until the fourth day we haven’t found any clues about the MI-17 helicopter’s whereabouts,” said Cendrawasih Military Command deputy spokesperson Lt. Col. Dax Sianturi in Sentani, Jayapura regency, on Monday.

He said he did not want to speculate about what may have happened to the helicopter, but that he was almost certain it had landed somewhere.

“The weather from morning to noon has been good in Jayapura. It is also sunny in Oksibil,” he said.

He that added the weather often changed around noon.

The MI-17 helicopter owned by the Army went missing on Friday at 11:49 a.m. It was carrying 12 people, including the crew. It went missing after flying to Okbibab from Oksibil to deliver supplies to soldiers stationed there.

The crew members’ names are Capt. CPN Aris and First Lt. CPN Bambang, who were the pilots, First Lt. CPN Ahwar, the co-pilot, Chief Sgt. Suriyatna, Second Sgt. Dita, Chief Pvt. Dwi Purnomo and First Pvt. Aharul.

The passengers are members of Infantry Battalion 725/WRG: Second Sgt. Ikrar Setya Nainggolan, First Pvt. Yanuarius Loe, First Pvt. Risno, Second Pvt. Sujono Kaimuddin and Second Pvt. Tegar Hadi Sentana. (gis)
