View all search resultsResidents caught one man immediately but another attempted to flee the scene by jumping into a swamp.
West Cikarang Police arrested two men suspected of attempting to steal a motorcycle in Bekasi regency, West Java on Friday.
The two, identified as S, 34, and D, 37, were accused of trying to steal a vehicle from a rented house in Kampung Utan, Cubitung district, Bekasi at 5:30 a.m.
"Locals heard them trying to move the motorcycle," claimed the head of the West Cikarang criminal unit, First Insp. Elman TB, as quoted by kompas.com.
After someone yelled "Thieves!" people started chasing them, he added.
"People caught D immediately, but S tried to run away by jumping into a swamp," Elman said, adding that residents then called the police.
The police were able to arrest S, who was drenched in mud.
Police seized pieces of evidence, such as a crowbar, a screwdriver and a curb key. (eyc)
