our workers of shipyard company PT Kodja Bahari have been killed after inhaling poisonous gas when they were repairing a barge, the Zulkifli 2, on Jl. Asahan 3, Tanjung Mas post in Semarang.

“They were repairing the barge on Sunday afternoon,” said the head of Central Java’s chapter of the National Search and Rescue Team (Basarnas), Aris Sofingi, on Monday.

Their bodies were found at 2:55 a.m. on Monday. A supervisor, Wiratno, told his subordinate Puji Waluyo to look for the workers at a barge at 9:30 pm on Sunday, but Puji only found the four's repair equipment.

They were then found dead when Puji and Irwan, production head of PT Koja Bahari, checked another barge. They also smelled strong odor when they opened the door of the barge.

The four workers were Mardjono (61 years old), Lamani (32), Jadi (33) and Muhammad Nur Huda (22).

Central Java’s Basarnas chapter sent rescue personnel to recover the bodies. They needed two hours to move the bodies, which were sent to Sr. Kariadi Public Hospital in Semarang.

The police are investigating the source of the poisonous gas. (bbn)
