View all search resultsozens of Kepanjenkidul subdistrict residents in Blitar, East Java, reportedly suffered from food poisoning after attending a prayer gathering (tahlilan) held in their neighborhood on Thursday. One of them died while six others were receiving treatment in a nearby hospital.
Sudarsono, 64, died on Saturday morning after suffering from abdominal pain and diarrhea since Thursday afternoon. He was examined by a doctor on Friday night, but did not survive.
The fatal incident allegedly started at the house of a woman named Yuliana, who was holding the gathering to pray for her deceased husband. At least 50 people attended the event, where they were provided with nasi rawon (beef soup and rice).
“I did not expect the gathering to turn this way. There’s no way I intended to put my neighbors in danger,” Yuliana said.
Joko, who attended the gathering, said he suffered from nausea. “I just underwent a check-up this morning with 15 other residents, as instructed by our subdistrict head,” he said, adding that six people had to stay at Mardiwaluyo Hospital for further treatment.
Kepanjenkidul Police chief Comr. Agus Fauzi said no conclusion had been made yet, as the police were still investigating the incident. (vny)
