The capsule rooming house has not obtained the required permits including a building permit (IMB) and a business license registered to the Kampung Rawa One-Stop Integrated Service (PTSP) office.
fter photos of a room rental service in Jakarta providing each occupant with a tiny one-mattress-wide room -- with a concept similar to a capsule hotel but with poorer facilities -- stole the public’s attention, the city administration immediately instructed its closure after it found out the building had no permit.
Although renting rooms in rooming houses has become a common survival move in big cities in Indonesia, this service located on Jl. Rawa Selatan V, Johar Baru, Central Jakarta has shocked many as the rooms only measure about 2 square meters wide.
“It has not obtained permits including a building permit (IMB) and a business license registered to the Kampung Rawa One-Stop Integrated Service (PTSP) office. We will soon reprimand the owner because this is not proper,” said Central Jakarta deputy mayor Irwandi on Monday, as quoted by kompas.com.
Irwandi inspected the house on Monday and ordered the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) and the Jakarta Spatial Planning Agency to close the place.
The owner of the building was not on the premises, leaving the place to be looked after by a caretaker. Irwandi said that he warned the owner to close the building within one or two days, otherwise he would seal the place with a police line.
Johar Baru district head Nurhelmi Savitri claimed not to know about the existence of this room rental service, saying that the owner had built the house on the sly.
“We are ready to force close the place if the owner does not follow the order within the next seven days,” said Nurhelmi.
