ctivist Suciwati has urges President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to bring to a just closure the case surrounding the murder of her husband, human rights activist Munir Said Thalib, 15 years ago.
Suciwati demanded that, approaching the beginning of his new term on Sunday, Jokowi should muster the courage to open to the public the results of a fact-finding team’s (TPF) investigation.
“We regret the current government’s [approach] in the Munir case, [as they seem to believe that] the closure of the case is not [their] responsibility,” Suciwati said on Wednesday during the Munir TPF document reading and film screening in Malang, East Java, held in commemoration of Munir 15 years after the murder.
“President Joko Widodo has promised two times to resolve the case while saying he was not burdened by the sins of the previous governments,” she added.
The TPF documents had been handed over to then-president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono through the state secretary at that time, Suciwati said, referring to Yudhoyono’s 2004-2014 administration.
The current government claimed it did not have the TPF documents, while Yudhoyono earlier admitted they had been officially received on June 24, 2015.
Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) coordinator Yati Andriyani said the event was critical of the government, which said the TPF documents were gone.
