akarta Governor Anies Baswedan has formed an ad hoc team to probe several questionable line items that emerged during the deliberation of the capital's 2020 draft budget priorities and ceiling (KUA-PPAS).

The irregular items carry exorbitant figures and have put Anies’ administration in hot water, with the public questioning budgetary transparency and the purpose of the allocations.

Anies said he wanted to get to the bottom of the issue and determine whether the irregularities were caused by a systemic error, were deliberate or were a human error.

“We will probe anyone who worked recklessly,” he said at City Hall on Friday, referring to all civil servants who contributed line items to the draft budget.

Anies set up the ad hoc team under a gubernatorial decree and appointed Jakarta Secretary Saefullah as its head. The team also comprised the high-ranking officials from the city inspectorate, the Jakarta Civil Service Agency (BKD) and the Jakarta legal bureau.

“I have issued the decree on the establishment of an ad hoc team to examine the alleged breach of discipline by civil servants,” Anies said.

Anies said the team's composition was typical for examining alleged civil servant violations, referring to a 2010 government regulation on civil service discipline.
