73-year-old British national identified as William Hamilton Mackenzie was found dead in his rented room at Jl. Tukad Nyali, Sanur, Bali on Tuesday.

According to the Indonesian Military’s (TNI) Sanur village supervisory non-commissioned officers (Babinsa), the British man had been staying in the room for a long time.

“He had been living in the rented room for quite some time. The cause of his death is still unknown, but I received information that he had been sick for the past couple of days,” Sanur Babinsa first sergeant Ibrahim Lema said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.

Ibrahim explained that Mackenzie had been in close contact with an Indonesian couple, one of whom had tested positive for COVID-19.

“When the husband and wife headed to their hometown, they were required to take a swab test. The result showed that one of them was positive,” he added. However, according to Ibrahim, Mackenzie’s swab test came back negative for COVID-19.

The couple were later declared negative for COVID-19 after a series of further tests, and they continued to take care of the 73-year-old Mackenzie until he was found dead on Tuesday.

Nonetheless, the dead body was handled in accordance with COVID-19 protocols by four medical staff wearing full personal protective equipment. The location and nearby areas were also disinfected as a precaution. (trn)
