The suspect, identified only as WH, 40, allegedly stabbed his victim, identified only as AHF, when he visited her at her rooming house on Monday.
The police in Jember, East Java, have arrested and named an Iraqi citizen a suspect for assaulting and robbing a 30-year-old transwoman from the province's Bondowoso regency.
The suspect, identified only as WH, 40, allegedly stabbed his victim, identified only as AHF, when he visited her at her rooming house on Monday.
Jember Police chief First Insp. Solekhan Arif said that WH had gone to visit AHF with the supposed intention of a sexual encounter.
After AHF let WH in the latter immediately grabbed the victim from behind and threatened to stab her, Solekhan said.
AFH fought back sustaining wounds to her hands and chest.
“The suspect cannot speak Indonesian. He didn’t say anything, he just immediately hit the victim,” Solekhan said on Tuesday.
When the victim's neighbors found out about the incident WH attempted to escape but lost his way and got stuck in the building's attic, according to the police.
The police captured WH and seized what were believed to be AFH's belongings in his bag, including two mobile phones and a motorcycle key.
Solekhan said that WH and AHF were not in a relationship and they had only met each other four times -- when they communicated with the help of translation app -- following their first interaction through social media.
From the conversation between WH and AFH, the police believe that the suspect had the intention of robbing the victim.
“[WH] often told the victim that he needed money and that he wanted to borrow some money from her,” Solekhan said as quoted by kompas.com.
WH is currently being detained at the Jember Police headquarters. He has been charged under Article 365 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on aggravated robbery and Article 351 of the KUHP on assault with a maximum punishment of 12 years’ imprisonment. (dpk)
