View all search resultsakob Oetama, cofounder of the country’s largest media and publishing company, Kompas Gramedia, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 88.
A Kompas Gramedia spokesperson said Jakob died at Mitra Keluarga Hospital in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
Several family members arrived at the hospital on Wednesday afternoon to take the body to the Kompas Gramedia building in Palmerah, Central Jakarta.
He will be buried at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta on Thursday.
Jakob was born in Magelang, Central Java, on Sept. 27, 1931. He started his career as a teacher.
He developed a passion for journalism and eventually decided to pursue the profession. He founded Kompas Gramedia in 1965 with his colleague P.K. Ojong who died in 1980.
