Sixteen invitees to the Kadin general assembly on June 30-July 1 have tested positive for COVID-19, including a former deputy head who has since died of the disease.
member of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has died from COVID-19 following last week’s general assembly in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi.
According to the organizing committee, at least 16 invitees had tested positive for COVID-19 after they arrived in Kendari to join the two-day meeting, which was opened by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on June 30. Four cases tested positive on June 29, seven on June 30 and five on July 1.
The 16 invitees were immediately taken to a nearby isolation facility and were not allowed to attend the meeting, said organizing committee head Adisatrya Sulisto. Several had now recovered, while others were still being treated for the disease.
Adisatrya identified the person who died on Tuesday as Rudy Siregar, who was Kadin’s former deputy head of interorganizational relations from 2015 to 2020.
He said Rudy departed from Jakarta and arrived in Kendari on June 29, the day before the President opened the meeting. As per the event's protocol for all invitees, Rudy took a PCR test on the day of his arrival.
“[Rudy] remained in isolation for the duration of the meeting. He was fine at first, but then we heard that his oxygen saturation level dropped. In the end, he passed away,” Adisatrya told The Jakarta Post on Thursday, adding that it was known that Rudy had comorbidities.
