A fire on Sunday night damaged a building at the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) headquarters in Central Jakarta.
No casualties were reported and only one room in the building on Jl. Percetakan Negara was damaged, the agency said in a statement on Monday.
It remains unclear whether the fire was an accident or deliberate, with the Johar Baru Police still investigating the incident. But the Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency believe that a short circuit caused the fire.
The fire started at around 9:30 p.m. on the first floor of the West F building, where electrical maintenance was in progress.
“There was panel maintenance in the east and west hallways of the building, when the maintenance workers tried to turn on the mini circuit breaker, an explosion occurred,” fire agency head Asril Rizal said on Twitter on Monday.
Seven fire trucks were immediately dispatched to the location.
At around 10:30 p.m., firefighters began to control much of the blaze after 10 additional trucks were deployed to help extinguish the fire. By midnight, firefighters had extinguished the fire.
