Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan is the latest person to come under the spotlight of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), following the arrest of city-owned developer PD Sarana Jaya president director Yoory Corneles Pinontoan for allegedly marking up the cost of purchasing a 4.2-hectare plot of land in East Jakarta’s Munjul, Pondok Rangon, in 2019.
he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is planning to summon Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan for questioning over a land procurement graft case that has caused the city around Rp 152 billion in financial losses.
The governor is the latest person to come under the spotlight of the graft-busting agency, following the arrest of the president director of city-owned developer PD Sarana Jaya, Yoory Corneles Pinontoan, for allegedly marking up the cost of purchasing a 4.2-hectare plot of land in East Jakarta’s Munjul, Pondok Rangon, in 2019.
KPK head Firli Bahuri has said he will launch further investigations to reveal the possible involvement of other parties from Jakarta's legislative and executive branches.
Firli was of the opinion that the governor and members of the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) had known about the problematic procurement process, considering that the city administration has the authority to allocate its budget for land purchases and that the councilors were tasked with reviewing and approving them.
"They must know about the budget allocation for the city's land procurement. Of course we need to question them, so that everything [to do with the case] becomes clear as day," he said recently, as quoted by tempo.co.
Firli did not specify when the KPK would summon Anies for questioning, nor did he name any city councilors who were subject to interrogation in relation to the case.
More recently, Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria insisted that Anies had no knowledge of the alleged markups and that he was not involved in any graft cases.
