ndonesian shuttlers Greysia Polii dan Apriyani Rahayu made history with their win at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, beating Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan from China to bring home Indonesia's first gold medal for the badminton women's doubles category.
The historic win can be likened to a ray of sunshine and hope for pandemic-struck Indonesia, etching in stone a tale of perseverance and tenacity to triumph over adversity.
This exact spirit of fortitude is what is felt by Grab Indonesia, and as a show of gratitude, the Southeast Asian superapp has prepared a token of its appreciation.
To honor their achievements, Grab Indonesia will award Greysia and Apriyani Rp 500 million (US$34,921) each, while their coach, Eng Hian, will receive Rp 100 million. All three, along with every Indonesian silver and bronze medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, will also receive credit worth Rp 42 million to shop at GrabFood.
Grab Indonesia country managing director Neneng Goenadi congratulated Greysia and Apriyani, noting in a statement that the pair had contributed a historic Olympic win for Indonesia.
"It is like a surprise gift for all Indonesians amid our grief and these challenging times. Of course, this national pride cannot be measured with mere numbers. This also applies to every athlete who continuously inspires, motivates [and reminds] us all of the importance of unity for Indonesia," she said.
Grab Indonesia president Ridzki Kramadibrata also expressed his respect for every Indonesian athlete competing worldwide, saying that they further cemented Indonesia's illustrious reputation.
"This victory will be a special gift for our country, which will soon celebrate Independence Day. As part of Indonesia, the Grab family is very proud and cannot wait to see them home," he said.
