lobal service providers are urging businesses in Indonesia to adopt green energy and hybrid cloud solutions but also note that the country needs to address deficiencies in telecommunication infrastructure and human resources to ensure that digitalization in the era of Industry 4.0 benefits the masses.

Schneider Electric’s Indonesia and Timor-Leste cluster president Roberto Rossi suggested it would become increasingly easy for companies to switch to green energy as the supporting technology became cheaper.

“Today, global investors and big players are looking for sustainable companies. The money is shifting from the old way of fossil fuels to green energy," he said during The Jakarta Post’s UpClose webinar on Tuesday.

He went on to say that the world was entering the “Electricity 4.0” era backed by green energy and digital infrastructure as the operational backbone. Electric energy would be two to five times more efficient than other forms of energy, he said.

Rossi went on to say that Schneider Electric itself planned to switch to 100 percent clean energy, increase the digitalization of its operations and partner with local companies to boost renewable energy usage.

“There will be strong investment and consumption ahead in sustainable data centers,” he said, adding that increased demand for green energy would also come from manufacturers, buildings and homes.
