wo former Garuda Indonesia top brass have been appointed to helm the recently formed state-owned travel holding, PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia (Aviata).

Triawan Munaf and Dony Oskaria will serve as Aviata’s president commissioner and president director, respectively.

Triawan was Garuda’s president commissioner, while Dony was the flag carrier’s vice president. Both were removed in a reshuffling of the debt-laden company’s leadership as part of an efficiency drive.

“The SOE [state-owned enterprises] minister has appointed the board of directors and the board of commissioners [members] of PT Aviasi Wisata Indonesia, who have the expertise, ability and experience to revive and optimize the country's tourism, which plays an important role in the national economy," Endra Gunawan, acting assistant deputy for tourism and support services at the SOE Ministry, said in a statement on Monday.

The holding company was established through Government Regulation No. 72/2021 and signed on July 1, approving the renaming of an old and small state-owned aerial photography company, Survai Udara (Penas) to Aviata.

Aviata now comprises five state-owned companies, namely airport operators PT Angkasa Pura I (AP 1) and PT Angkasa Pura II (AP 2), tourism company PT Taman Wisata Candi (TWC), hotel operator PT Hotel Indonesia Natour (Inna) and retailer Sarinah.
