Japan lose to China in Uber Cup women's team final

Akane Yamaguchi overcame Olympic gold medalist Chen Yu Fei 21-18, 21-10 in the opening women's singles match, but Japan dropped two doubles matches and Sayaka Takahashi was beaten by He Bing Jiao 21-9, 21-18 in the second singles match at Ceres Arena.

efending champions Japan allowed the Chinese women's badminton team to come from behind 3-1 in the final and capture the Uber Cup team title in Aarhus, Denmark on Saturday.

Akane Yamaguchi overcame Olympic gold medalist Chen Yu Fei 21-18, 21-10 in the opening women's singles match, but Japan dropped two doubles matches and Sayaka Takahashi was beaten by He Bing Jiao 21-9, 21-18 in the second singles match at Ceres Arena.

Earlier in the day, in the men's Thomas Cup semifinals, Japan lost to China 3-1. China's Shi Yuqi retired from his singles match against Kento Momota when he was 20-5 down in the second set.

The Thomas Cup is the official world team championship for men and the Uber Cup is the women's equivalent.
