Jakarta, once a hotspot for COVID-19 infections, is now among the first few regions in the country to enjoy the most relaxed set of public activity restrictions (PPKM).
hrough a home minister instruction issued on Monday, the government has upgraded Jakarta to the lowest level of the multitiered public activity restrictions (PPKM), at least until Nov. 15, as new daily cases in the capital have been consistently in the low three digits over the past few weeks.
Although a number of social curbs have remained the same, such as the maximum capacity allowed for in-school learning, which remains at 50 percent, the new level 1 curbs have also introduced new limits for a number of public places.
Capacity for office buildings in both nonessential and essential sectors have been increased from 50 percent to 75 percent and from 75 percent to full capacity, respectively, while offices in critical sectors could continue to operate at full capacity.
The new measures have also doubled the capacity of hotels and shopping centers in Jakarta, allowing such crowd-pulling places to operate at full capacity. Malls are now also allowed to stay open until 10 p.m.
Meanwhile, street food vendors, hawkers and restaurants, including those that open from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m., are now allowed to operate at 75 percent capacity. Curfews have been pushed to 10 p.m. from 9 p.m. While visitors were previously limited to spending just an hour at these commercial establishments, the new regulations no longer impose a time limit.
Similarly, the maximum capacity for supermarkets, traditional markets and nonessential market vendors has also been increased to 75 percent.
Houses of worship, public parks and facilities, gyms, as well as other places that attract large crowds, such as wedding venues, are now allowed to operate at 75 percent capacity.
