ndonesia has revamped its anti-doping organization in a move to ensure that the country stays within the guidelines of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali on Friday launched the country’s National Anti-Doping Organization (NADO), rebranded as the Indonesia Anti-Doping Organization (IADO) from its previous name, the Indonesian Anti-Doping Agency (LADI).

Zainudin promised that the revamped organization would be professional and independent.

“IADO must be professional and independent. It no longer welcomes administrators from any [national] sports organizations or the government,” Zainudin told a livestreamed press conference.

The move comes after WADA’s executive committee removed Thailand and Indonesia’s anti-doping organizations from its list of noncompliant NADO on Thursday.

“In line with the International Standard for Code Compliance by Signatories, the Indonesia and Thailand NADOs have successfully met their obligations to regain compliance and have therefore been removed from the list of noncompliant Signatories,” the committee said in a press release.

The decision comes almost four months after WADA declared that the NADOs of Indonesia, Thailand and North Korea were noncompliant with its anti-doping code. WADA announced the sanction on Sept. 14, 2021, which then became effective on Oct. 7 after no objections were raised over its decision.
