Stamp Fairtex weighs in on ONE Fight Night 2 headliner

O

NE Championship superstar Stamp Fairtex is busy getting ready for her much-anticipated return to the Circle at ONE Fight Night 2: Xiong vs. Lee III on Saturday, Oct. 1.

That morning, the former two-sport World Champion will take on Jihin Radzuan in an atomweight mixed martial arts (MMA) bout at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Stamp is not discounting her upcoming opponent, and she has gone to great lengths to make sure that every one of her weapons is as sharp as possible. While she prepares, the 24-year-old sensation has been thinking about the outcome of ONE Fight Night 2’s thrilling main event.

In the headliner, atomweight queen Angela “Unstoppable” Lee will challenge ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion Xiong “The Panda” Jing Nan for the second time in the hopes of becoming a two-division titleholder, but the fight will be the third battle between the two overall. The series stands at 1-1, and the combat sports world is abuzz with discussion about who will come out on top.

Stamp took on Lee in the main event of ONE X in March after earning a shot at her World Title by winning the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix Championship. While she briefly took the Singaporean-American superstar into deep waters with some heavy blows, Fairtex ultimately succumbed to a rear-naked choke secured by Lee in the second round.

Despite the defeat, Stamp believes her old foe will be no match for The Panda in their upcoming trilogy tussle, as she is competing in the division in which she remains unbeaten, and where she has seven World Title defenses to her name.

“This is Angela's second fight after she returned from [maternity leave]. In our last fight, I noticed that her cardio is still a bit off. I think the [fight] will go to Xiong Jing Nan,” Stamp said.

“I think Xiong Jing Nan will still beat Angela in the strawweight division because this is her natural weight and her own belt. She definitely trains hard to defend her title. Also, Xiong Jing Nan has been more active in the Circle than Angela in recent years, so I think this is one of her advantages.”

Lee scored the latest win in their fabled rivalry. She defeated Xiong to retain her atomweight gold in October 2019. Following the victory, Unstoppable took an extended break to focus on her pregnancy and motherhood. The “mom-champ” showed her mettle in her comeback fight against Stamp, but the Thai athlete believes her winning run will end there.

“Xiong’ punches are fast and heavy. I think she can handle Angela with those strikes,” Stamp said.
