A new World Champion was crowned at ONE 161: Petchmorakot vs. Tawanchai on Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Tawanchai PK.Saenchai went five exciting rounds with Petchmorakot Petchyindee to secure the nod from all three judges and become the new ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion, ending Petchmorakot’s two-and-a-half-year reign.
In the co-main events, the ONE Heavyweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix semifinals kicked off with Roman Kryklia picking apart Guto Inocente to score a first-round KO. With the win, Kryklia entered his name into the Grand Prix final and was awarded a US$50.000 performance bonus for the stunning showing.
In the other semifinal matchup, Iraj Azizpour went the distance of three rounds with Bruno Chaves but scored a unanimous decision. The Iranian heavyweight was too slick and confident and stopped his Brazilian adversary from gaining any momentum. Azizpour’s entry into the Grand Prix finale sets up a dynamic contest because he was the last man to defeat Kryklia.
Rodrigo Marello had a fantastic night at the office in his ONE debut, making history by scoring the fastest victory in ONE’s submission grappling division after tapping out Ruslan Bagdasarian in just 15 seconds of the first round. For his record-breaking performance, he also earned a $50.000 bonus.
