The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) is considering three of its own politicians to challenge former member Bobby Nasution’s expected bid for governor of North Sumatra later this year to ensure the heavily favored rival will not be the sole candidate in an uncontested election.
The potential candidacy of Bobby Nasution, the son-in-law of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, in the North Sumatra gubernatorial race, is gaining traction among political parties as he now has the support of more than half of the parties in the local legislature.
The Islam-based National Awakening Party (PKB) has become the latest party to declare support for Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution's bid for the North Sumatra gubernatorial election, slated for November, following several other parties, including the Democratic Party, the Golkar Party, the National Mandate Party (PAN) and the Gerindra Party.
The Golkar Party has officially nominated Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution, who is also President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s son-in-law, to contest the North Sumatra governor post in the upcoming regional head elections in November.
