View all search resultsThe country has marked a milestone as the first containers of shrimp, certified free of Cs-137, cleared inspections to enter the US this week, ending months of disruption in supplying the seafood industry's largest export market.
Following August's cesium-137 contamination incident that disrupted seafood shipments, the government is preparing to renew shrimp exports to the US, which is expected to help meet the $6.25 billion in fisheries export targeted for this year.
The National Police have launched a criminal investigation into the radioactive contamination of Cesium-137 (Cs-137) at the Cikande Industrial Estate in Serang, Banten, after traces of the substance were detected in shrimp exported to the United States.
An investigation into suspected radioactive contamination at the Cikande Industrial Estate commenced in August after the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) detected Cs-137 contamination in a sample of frozen shrimp imported from Indonesia. The shrimp originated from PT Bahari Makmur Sejati, a company operating within the Cikande area.
