View all search resultsThe governor said he needed greater authority because Jakarta, the national epicenter of the outbreak, bordered with cities that fall within two neighboring provinces. The cities are Bogor, Depok and Bekasi in West Java and Tangerang in Banten.
From Feb. 13 to 23, commuter trains from Bogor, Depok, Cikarang and Bekasi usually bound for Kota Station in West Jakarta are to end their journeys at Manggarai Station in South Jakarta before returning to their respective stations of origin.
The rapid improvement in the commuter line service has led to an urgent need for Greater Jakarta to have more overpass and underpass railway crossings, given the high number of accidents as well as rush-hour traffic congestion at railway crossings. However, the development of such infrastructure has been slow.
To call Jakarta, home to some 10 million people, a gridlocked city is an understatement. The traffic woes continue to worsen particularly because of the ongoing construction of some infrastructure projects in the Indonesian capital, where a short trip can take hours.
