Calls for national unity, inclusive development and a tough stance against identity politics took the spotlight in President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s speech to mark Pancasila Day on Thursday, as the country’s political machine revs up for the 2024 presidential and legislative elections.
"We are grateful that Pancasila remains our guiding star as we face all these challenges. It has inspired us and strengthened our unity [..] and lifted our spirits to face every difficulty and challenge," President Jokowi said.
“This event is badly needed as citizens have been polarized lately because of politics. They start to forget their history and their own identity as a diverse nation. Therefore we hold the purification ceremony,” Sosiawan said after his theatrical act using the red-and-white national flag.
As the country celebrates the birth of Pancasila, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has called for the country to strengthen collective unity and further implement and preserve the state ideology Pancasila as the nation's way of life.
