View all search resultsEach year, an estimated 1 million to 2 million Indonesians travel abroad for medical treatment, leading to losses of approximately Rp 163 trillion (US$10 billion) annually in capital outflows. The massive losses underscore the urgent need to develop high-quality medical tourism within Indonesia.
Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto said developing SEZs had been a key strategy among Southeast Asian nations to attract investment and that Indonesia lagged behind with only 24 SEZs covering a total of 21,000 hectares.
Aside from a clinic, Genting Group also plans to establish a local manufacturing unit to supply stem cells to the clinic and other hospitals across the country, operating under the license and supervision of US-based biotech firm Celularity.
