However, starting in childhood a shift towards a healthier lifestyle, based on a diverse diet consisting of sufficient fruits, vegetables, drinking water and non-sweetened beverages, balanced with regular physical exercise can make a significant difference.
The State of the World's Children 2019 report highlights a global shift in children's diets, especially in poorer families, from the often more healthy, traditional ones to highly processed foods and “ultra-processed” foods, which have been characterized with formulations containing little or no whole food and are extremely tasty, highly energy dense and low in essential nutrients.
It is more convenient to eat high-fat or spicy food or drink too much coffee and leave our gastric concerns to drugs like ranitidine. It is cheap, available at any drugstore, and can be purchased without a prescription. But this kind of mindset can also be deadly.
