We welcome the king and queen of the Netherlands who are visiting Indonesia from Monday to Friday. Their entourage includes four Cabinet ministers and 130 businesspeople. Clearly, the state visit also aims to promote business relationships between the two countries. There are, however, individuals in Indonesia who oppose the state visit, demanding that the Netherlands should first recognize Aug. 17, 1945, as the date Indonesia proclaimed its independence from its colonial rule.

As a female politician, the family resilience bill has made me wonder, is it time to reevaluate the 30 percent gender quota because the increasing number of women representation in the highest legislative body has not helped to significantly produce more gender-responsive policies?
Imposing excise tax is an important step toward a partial ban, as it aims to reduce the use of plastics. In this scenario, however, the government should also provide clear regulations on large-scale plastic waste management. Imposing an excise on plastic bags will be ineffective at reducing plastic pollution without proper management of plastic waste.
