4.2-kilometer pedestrian track around the Bogor Botanical Gardens and Bogor Palace was opened on Sunday. At the inauguration, Bogor Mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto declared Bogor a “city of runners”.
Bima remarked that Bogor’s weather was “very supportive, safe and comfortable” for exercising. Therefore, it could lure tourists and runners who would benefit from the city’s accommodating environment for sportive activities. “People can arrive in Bogor at night, stay at a hotel and exercise in the morning,” Bima suggested.

As reported by Antara news agency, the walkway is lined by benches and equipped with Wi-Fi. “Later on, we will set up small stalls for small and medium businesses to sell [their products], and every 5 meters there will be a bin to maintain cleanliness," Bima said, adding that the area would be patrolled 24 hours by a dedicated security team.
The launch ceremony was attended by hundreds of people, including foreign tourists.
Thirty-eight-year-old Mel Anderson from Australia, who has lived in Jakarta for 4 months, took part in the opening and joined the running event as well. “Bogor is very beautiful; the atmosphere is also better than Jakarta, very suitable for running and exercising,” he noted. (mra/kes)
