The Pesona Kebangsaan (Nation Charms) Parade 2017 has come to a close.

Held in Ende, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), the event ended with a ceremony on Pancasila Day on June 1 led by the Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Minister Eko Putro Sandjojo.

“By commemorating the anniversary of Pancasila in Ende, we ought to maintain diversity and Bung Karno’s vision of one Indonesia,” an excerpt from President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's speech was read out by Eko at the ceremony.

Prior to the ceremony, several Pancasila-inspired performances were held at the top of Mount Kelimutu the day before, followed by a boat and arts and cultural parade in Lapangan Pancasila in the evening.

Thousands of locals were seen flocking to the event alongside NTT Governor Frans Lebu Raya, Ende Regent Marsel Petu, Tourism Ministry deputy for domestic tourism marketing Esthy Reko Astuti, and all stakeholders in the region.

After the parade, the event was moved to Inspiration Park near Lapangan Pancasila, which is where president Sukarno, during his exile, came up with Pancasila.

An activity dubbed Bung Karno Meditation Night was held at the park, consisting of a moment of silence, opening prayer, the reading of Bung Karno’s quotes and a candlelight vigil.

“Pesona Kebangsaan Parade has become the icon of Ende. According to the mandate given by Tourism Minister Arief Yahya, this big event needs to be held regularly and each event has to be better than the previous one,” said Esthy. (kes)
