o reduce crowd density during the Idul Fitri exodus, the management of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has opened self-serve check-in counters for passengers who have no baggage to check at terminals 1A, 1B, 1C and 3 from June 19 to July 3.

“[The self-serve check-in] is provided in terminals that will be crowded during the Idul Fitri exodus,” said the airport's senior general manager, M. Suriawan Wakan, as quoted by kompas.com.

The self-serve check-in counters are located in the terminals' public areas, outside the regular check-in areas, and can be utilized by passengers two hours prior to a flight.

After checking in, passengers will be given a boarding pass and directed to the boarding lounge through the flight crew entrance in order to avoid queuing with other passengers who have to check baggage in.

The airport's senior manager at Terminal 1, Eko Wahyudi, said that the service received positive responses on the first day of operation. “If necessary, we can prolong [the self-serve check-in after the period is over],” he told The Jakarta Post. (kes)
