Riau Province took home seven awards at the Anugerah Pesona Indonesia (API) 2017 tourism awards that was held on Nov. 25.

The seven awards were for Bolu Berendam Indragiri Hulu as the most popular traditional dish, Siak Castle in Siak Regency as the most popular historical site, Bono in Pelawan Regency as the most popular surfing location, Rokan Hillir Regency’s Bakar Tongkang as the most popular cultural attraction, Kuantan Singingi Regency’s Pacu Jalur as the most popular tourism festival, Laksamana Mengamuk as the most popular traditional drink and Pasar Bawah in Pekanbaru as the most popular tourist attraction.

Tourism Ministry’s secretary Ukus Kuswara said during the event that API is a measuring tool to improve the service quality that fits the national and global standards.

Riau Governor Arsyadjuliandi Rachman said that the Jokowi administration is currently focusing on improving the tourism sector.

“In order to synergize with the program, Riau provincial administration together with regencies and cities need to be more active so that the government’s tourism programs are in line with regional programs,” said Arsyadjuliandi.

“This achievement is the result of the hard work of Riau provincial administration together with regional and city administrations, communities, mass media, the private sector and the locals who are committed to improving the tourism sector which includes creative economy and culinary,” he added.

API is an annual award that aims to boost people’s appreciation towards tourism in Indonesia.

This year, the voting period was conducted online from June 1 until Oct. 31. (asw)
