he Tourism Ministry conducted a sales mission event on Nov. 1 at the Marina Mandarin Hotel that aimed to promote Belitung to Singaporeans.
The sales mission was attended by 33 travel agents and tour operators, four hotels, Indonesian Embassy in Singapore’s minister counselor of economy Sigit S. Widiyanto, Belitung Regent Sahani Saleh and East Belitung Deputy Regent Burhanudin, among others.
“We want to create Belitung as a favorite destination among foreign tourists. Belitung is included in the [ministry’s] top 10 Priority Destinations list,” explained the ministry's special staff for infrastructure, Judi Rifajantoro.
“Bali welcomes 40 percent [of the total of foreign tourists coming to Indonesia], Jakarta welcomes 30 percent, Batam-Bintan welcomes 20 percent and other cities welcome 10 percent,” Judi added.
Judi also said that plenty of Singaporeans have relatives from Belitung.
This was the second sales mission held by the ministry in Singapore. The first one aimed to promote the new flight route between Silangit in North Sumatra and Singapore.
Moreover, Sriwijaya Air Group is going to launch a new charter flight route between Singapore and Tanjung Pandan. The new service is said to serve three flights per week from Dec. 15 to Jan. 5. (kes)
