The Crossborder Atambua 2017 Festival was held at Simpang Lima Field, Atambua in East Nusa Tenggara on Dec. 1.
It was the last Crossborder Atambua Festival in 2017.
A total of 30,000 people came to see singer Judika performed on stage, along with singer from Timor Leste, Maria Vitoria.
“Good evening Atambua, welcome our brothers and sisters from Timor Leste. Thank you for coming, let’s celebrate our brotherhood through tourism,” told Judika.
Judika performed at least 11 songs, such as “Sampai Kau Jadi Milikku” (Until You are Mine), “Sampai Akhir” (Until the End), “Separuh Napas” (Half Breath).
Vitoria performed right after Judika. The alumni of D’Academy Asia 2 sang a total of five songs, namely “Bumi Semakin Panas” (The Earth is Getting Hotter), “Nirmala”, “Listen”, “Despacito” and “Mira Santika.”
“As a citizen of Timor Leste, I feel proud because it’s an honor for me to represent Timor Leste at this huge crossborder music concert in Atambua,” told Maria.
Throughout 2017, Belu administration has held several Crossborder Atambua Festival concerts with performers include Mario G Kalu, TipeX, Jamrud, Coklat and Slank.
Indonesian Ambassador for Timor Leste Sahat Sitorus said the program also belonged to Timor Leste.
“We are brothers, we have the same language,” told Sahat.
“I think this is a great step and we are thanking President Jokowi for his Nawa Cita [The Nine Agendas] to develop crossborder [area], and inviting people in crossborder as well as neighboring countries like Timor Leste to take part in developing Indonesia,” he added.
Belu Regent Willybrodus Lay also said the same thing.
“Thank you to the Tourism Ministry for promoting crossborder area, especially Atambua, with music concerts,” said Willybrodus.
At the closing ceremony, Willybrodus gave kain tenun from Belu to Sahat and the ministry's head of man-made promotion, Ni Putu Gayatri.
“Indonesia has crossborder areas that can attract tourists from neighboring countries. There are at least 92 islands located next to neighboring countries that can be developed,” said Ni Putu Gayatri.
Data from Central Statistics Agency showed that the number of foreign tourists who came to Indonesia through Crossborder Post (PLB) in May 2017 was 156,050 people, up by 722.38 percent from the same period last year. (kes)
