Initiated by the Spedagi social entrepreneurship organization, a bi-annual international conference on village revitalization is returning for the third time from Nov. 21 to 25.
gadiprono and Ngadidono hamlets in Ngadimulyo village, Temanggung regency, are to host the International Conference on Village Revitalization (ICVR), according to Kompas.com.
Initiated by the Spedagi social entrepreneurship organization, ICVR, a bi-annual international conference on village revitalization, is returning for the third time from Nov. 21 to 25. Its activities include seminars, workshops, excursions and exhibitions.
“ICVR is a forum where activists, practitioners, thinkers and relevant institutions gather to work on village revitalization,” Singgih Susilo Kartono, the founder of Spedagi, said in a press conference in Temanggung on Monday.
The hamlets were selected as the venues because that is where the traditional Papringan Market, which opens once every 35 days, is located.
Papringan Market is also a conservation project involving a papringan (bamboo garden) with a creative approach. It provides the scenic surrounding of a bamboo garden for the conference participants, ensuring they are shielded from sunlight.
“When there is no market open, the area functions as a public space. Full program participants would board in homestays that are incorporated into local residents’ houses,” Singgih said.

Prior to the upcoming ICVR, the inaugural conference was held at Kandangan village in Temanggung, followed by one in Ato village in Yamaguchi prefecture, Japan.
“Papringan Market was initially a pre-conference project for the second ICVR, which subsequently became the driver of village revitalization projects in wider areas,” said Singgih.
He said he believes that the ICVR has to be held in villages and engage local residents while applying principals of locality, creativity, simplicity, usefulness and sustainability. (mut)
