otel management group Archipelago International has inaugurated Harper Wahid Hasyim Medan, its third hotel in Medan, North Sumatra, following Grand Aston City Hall Medan and Favehotel S. Parman Medan.

President and CEO of Archipelago International, John Flood, said Medan had unlimited potential as a tourism and business destination.

Infrastructure developments including an airport, highways and alternative transportation modes make the city even more convenient for both domestic and international tourists.

“This reality is what encouraged us to present our third hotel, Harper, here,” Flood told the press in a briefing held after the launch ceremony of Harper Wahid Hasyim Medan on Monday.

He went on to say that the hotel was the second built under the brand Harper in Sumatra after the one in Palembang, South Sumatra.

In all, he added, Archipelago International operates over 140 hotels globally and 100 others are being developed in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, the Caribbean and Saudi Arabia.

The company's vice president of business development, Norbert Vas, said the Harper Medan was designed with guests’ comfort taken into consideration, combining strategic locations with functionality.

“We want all guests to experience an extraordinary stay here, like they are staying in their own home,” said Vas, mentioning the hotel’s term 4B comforts, encompassing comfort in bedroom, bathroom, breakfast and broadband.

Location-wise, Harper Wahid Hasyim Medan is within close proximity of numerous attractions such as durian shop Durian Ucok, Rahmat International Wildlife Museum & Gallery and Upside Down World Medan, as well as other destinations that can be reached within a 15-minute drive.

Proprietor of Harper Wahid Hasyim Medan, Budi Suryo, expressed his excitement about the partnership with Archipelago International, saying that he chose the hotel chain due to its good reputation and vast network.

“I am proud to be able to partner with Archipelago International,” said Budi, expressing hope that the hotel would continue to develop in the future.

Aside from being close to Medan's culinary and entertainment center, Harper Wahid Hasyim Medan also features special North Sumatran cuisine in its menu.

One of the culinary highlights are the dishes with andaliman, a kind of pepper that only grows near Lake Toba, the pride of North Sumatra.

Hotel manager Edi Suprayitno said enjoying dishes with andaliman was one of the many things that would please hotel guests. (yun/mut)
