The festival will feature various events including the Krakatau Trip, a cultural parade and the Tapis Lampung Parade.
he annual Lampung Krakatau Festival (LKF) is scheduled to return this year for three days from Aug. 23 to 25 in various locations around Bandar Lampung.
The festival will feature four main events, including the Krakatau Trip that commemorates the volcano’s massive eruption on Aug. 26, 1883, which killed more than 36,000 people.
Similar to previous festivals, the trip will begin in Kalianda district in South Lampung and head to Sebesi Island, the closest inhabited island to the Krakatau islands.

In addition to the Krakatau Trip, people can join other events as well, namely Pesona Kemilau Sai Bumi Ruwa Jurai as the official opening of the LKF and Expo Krakatau Lampung, which consists of traditional Lampung performances and culinary and souvenir bazaars. The festival will conclude with a cultural parade, a photography exhibition, traditional children’s games and the Tapis Lampung Parade that will showcase the province’s traditional fabrics.
Lampung deputy governor Chusnunia Chalim said LKF 2019 was a way to promote and attract tourists to Lampung. Last year, the province welcomed 274,742 foreign and 13,933,207 Indonesian travelers.
“Aside from promoting Mount Krakatau as the icon of Lampung, the festival can also popularize Tapis Lampung traditional fabric,” Chusnunia said in an official statement. (wir/mut)
