T

he ASEAN Culture & Tourism Showcase 2020 program will run a series of events where people in South Korea can explore the region’s diverse charms from the comfort of their country.

People can plan future trips or reminisce about the time they traveled to ASEAN countries by visiting the ASEAN Tourism Promotion Booth & Photo Exhibition at Korea Press Center Garden, Seoul. Held from Nov. 4 to 6, the event will showcase numerous photos of the region and more will be made available online on ASEAN-Korea Culture's website from Nov. 4 to 25.

Those who are interested to know more about the countries’ lifestyle products, musical instruments and books are recommended to visit the ASEAN Culture & Tourism Pavilion from Nov. 4 to 25 at Arc.N.Book bookstore in Euljiro, Seoul.

Apart from the region’s lifestyle and tourism aspects, the 2020 ASEAN Culture & Tourism Showcase is set to highlight ASEAN cuisines as well in collaboration with television program The Best Cooking Secrets on EBS1 TV. The cooking show, presented by celebrity chef Shin Hyo-sub and host Kim Dong-wan, will feature iconic dishes from the region in five episodes that will air daily at 10:50 a.m. local time from Nov. 9 to 13.

Additionally, the program will present a culinary art book titled Stories around the Table. Scheduled to be launched in early December, the book will center on “soul food” and lifestyles of Southeast Asian people. It will also feature signature dishes, recipes and lifestyles along with photos sourced from the Embassies of 10 ASEAN countries in Seoul.

ASEAN Culture & Tourism Showcase 2020 is initiated by ASEAN-Korea Center, an international organization that aims to promote economic and sociocultural cooperation between ASEAN countries and Korea.

In a statement, ASEAN-Korea Center’s secretary-general Lee Hyuk stated that Southeast Asian countries were among the most-loved tourist destinations for Koreans as 10 million tourists had visited the region in 2019.

“Unfortunately, the global spread of the coronavirus has prevented many Koreans from traveling to Southeast Asia this year,” Lee said. “In this regard, the ASEAN-Korea Center is organizing the ASEAN Culture Tourism Showcase 2020 to provide Koreans with the chance to relieve their nostalgia for traveling, while simultaneously offering the opportunity to deepen their understanding of culture, tourism and food of the ASEAN countries.” (wir/wng)
