rime Minister Fumio Kishida said Tuesday that Japan will shorten the period of isolation for COVID-19 patients to seven days from the current 10 days.

By shortening the recuperating period, counted from the day the person developed symptoms of the disease, the country seeks to allow people to return to work more quickly to mitigate the impact on socioeconomic activities from the coronavirus pandemic.

Kishida had said he would revise the recuperation period after monitoring the infection situation in the country.

Japan has been hit by its seventh wave of coronavirus infections. But as it seeks to "live with the coronavirus," the government has not imposed tight restrictions and has been easing border control measures.
