n a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo expressed his support for initiatives to restore peace to the war-torn country and offered Indonesia’s assistance in the role of a peace mediator.

"I am keeping an eye on the latest developments in Ukraine, and express our condolences to the victims who have died. Indonesia continues to support the initiative for peace in Ukraine and we have offered to be a bridge to peace," the President said in a statement on Sunday.

Jokowi met with Zelensky on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) Summit in Hiroshima, Japan, over the weekend.

The President also raised other issues during the meeting, including access to Ukraine’s grain, pledging his support for the extension of the Black Sea Grain Initiative to allow exports of food and fertilizers from three key Ukrainian ports.

"I support [the initiative’s] extension for another two months. This is very important for the smooth functioning of the grain supply chain," Jokowi said.

The two leaders had discussed Ukraine’s grain exports last year during their meeting in Kyiv ahead of the Group of Twenty (G20) Summit in Bali, where President Jokowi urged G20 leaders to "end the war" in Ukraine.

Last June, Jokowi traveled to Kyiv to meet with Zelensky before heading to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on a “peace mission” to encourage dialogue.
