ndonesia has highlighted the need for a permanent cease-fire in Palestine, reminding world leaders to stand for justice and restart the Palestine-Israel peace and political process.

“I cannot stand still to see thousands of deaths of innocent women and children. I cannot stand still to see homes, schools and hospitals being flattened to rubble,” Foreign Minister Retno Marsuid told the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday, as quoted by the Foreign Ministry’s official website.

On Monday, Qatar announced a two-day extension of the four-day humanitarian pause. During the pause, Hamas released 50 Israeli women and children out of a total of 240 hostages taken during the Oct. 7 surprise attack.

In exchange, Israel released 150 Palestinian women and children from its prisons.

However, clashes were reported in northern Gaza on Tuesday.

Hamas’ military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, cited Israel’s violation of the humanitarian pause as the cause.

In light of this, Retno said the extended pause, while welcomed, was insufficient. She also called on nations to support humanitarian agencies operating in Gaza.
