The Indonesia Hospital, which stopped operations due to a fuel shortage in November, is reportedly being used by the Israeli military personnel as an outpost.
ndonesia deplored the Israeli forces’ decision to occupy the Indonesia Hospital in the war-torn Gaza Strip and turn the medical facility into a temporary military base.
News about the hospital’s occupation broke on Dec. 19, according to Sarbini Abdul Murad, the chairman of nonprofit Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) that operates the facility in Gaza.
“We heard […] from our partners in North Gaza that [the Indonesia Hospital] had been used as an outpost by [the Israeli military] in the past two weeks,” Sarbini told The Jakarta Post on Sunday.
MER-C sent a letter to the World Health Organization (WHO) to request an investigation into the claim and urge Israeli military personnel to immediately empty the premises, as reported by Antara news agency.
Vice President Ma’ruf Amin condemned the claimed occupation, calling it an unethical move to take control of the medical facility.
“We don’t like it,” Ma’ruf told the press on Saturday, as quoted by kompas.id. “It’s violating the law of war.”
On Sunday, MER-C’s Sarbini said that the Israeli military forces had left the Indonesia Hospital following their protests and the news about the occupation making headlines in the region.
