The Defense Minister has given a personal send-off to the Indonesian Navy hospital ship, which departed Jakarta on Thursday on a goodwill mission to Egypt with humanitarian aid for Palestinian refugees from Gaza.
ndonesian Navy hospital ship KRI Dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat departed Jakarta on Thursday with humanitarian aid for refugees from the besieged Palestinian territory of Gaza.
Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto sent off the goodwill mission at the Military Sea Transport Command (Kolinlamil) in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.
Carrying food, clothing, bottled water and medical supplies, the hospital ship embarked on a 52-day round-trip journey to the Egyptian city of El-Arish, which borders the city of Rafah in southern Gaza.
The route includes a scheduled port of call in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Among the 214 crew members, 40 are members of the Indonesian Navy’s special forces.
“This is evidence of our ongoing support for the Palestinian people in their struggle for self-defense, their fight for independence,” Prabowo said during the embarkation ceremony on Thursday, as quoted by Antara.
“As it is known, Indonesia has consistently supported the struggle of the Palestinian people, and we continue to deploy whatever we can to support their cause,” he said.
