Several world leaders have congrulated the defense minister for his presumptive victory in the 2024 general election based on quick count results.
Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto has received messages of congratulation from several world leaders, including Jordan’s King Abdullah II and France’s President Emmanuel Macron, for his presumptive victory in the 2024 election according to informal tallies.
“Happy for you, my brother. Congratulations,” King Abdullah is heard saying over the phone in a video clip shared by the Defense Ministry and uploaded on Tuesday to Prabowo’s official Instagram account @prabowo.
“When the time is right, I want to come and meet you and congratulate you in person,” the Jordanian king continues. “I am so, so happy for you, and I know that your country needs you. I have known you for a long time, I couldn’t be prouder, my friend.”
King Abdullah also remarks that his team will be ready to welcome Prabowo if he ever visits Jordan.
Prabowo, who also chairs the Gerindra Party, responds warmly to King Abdullah’s congratulations, saying he has “fond memories in Amman”.
During a separate call on Friday, Prabowo greeted Macron in the French president’s native language.
“I wanted to congratulate you on your awesome elections. Congratulations,” Macron says in a video shared by the ministry, to which Prabowo replies in English and French, “It’s a great honor for me.”
