The United States and Indonesia have made the final preparations for a series of naval and amphibious joint exercises in Lampung, scheduled for mid-May.
he United States Navy and US Marine Corps have been working together with the Indonesian Navy last week to finalize the concept for the Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 2024 joint exercise in Lampung.
Delegations from both countries conducted the final site survey of the training area in Lampung on March 12 and 13, visiting places to be used in the joint exercise around the Ratai Bay in Lampung, such as ports, beaches, sea and ground areas as well as various facilities to be used during the exercise, the Indonesian Navy said in a press release on Friday.
Unlike Indonesia where the Marine Corps is part of the Navy, the US Marine Corps is a service of its own, separate from the US Navy, although both services are coordinated by the US Navy Secretary and often work closely together.
Thirty-seven personnel from the Indonesian Navy attended the training finalization, led by Col. Daru Cahyo Sumirat from the Navy Headquarters Operations Staff while the US Navy and Marine Corps delegates were led by Lt. Cdr. Nicholas with a team of 16 people.
Participants then conducted the final planning conference at the Sheraton Hotel Lampung on Thursday and Friday.
The exercises will include decision-making processes, exchanges of knowledge in the form of subject matter expert exchange (SMEE), individual exercises and joint coastal defense exercises by integrating land, sea and air units.
The units to take part in the exercise include warships, helicopters, aircraft, aerial drones, frogmen, marines, engineering, medical, legal and public affairs.
