efense Minister Prabowo Subianto arrived in Amman on Monday to attend a high-level urgent humanitarian conference on the Gaza Strip, a visit happening following Indonesia’s recent announcement to step up its efforts in providing assistance for Palestinians and pushing for a permanent cease-fire.

Going on behalf of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, the president-elect assured that he would coordinate with the United Nations and several heads of state to implement Jakarta’s plans for Gaza, including the resettlement of around 1,000 Palestinians to Indonesia.

International ire continues to grow as the death toll in Gaza surpasses 35,000, entering the eighth month of Israel's retaliatory strikes following Hamas’ unprecedented attack on Oct. 7, 2023, which left around 1,200 casualties based on Israeli tallies.

More countries are now calling for a truce and recognition of Palestinian statehood in order to fulfill a two-state solution regarded by many as the sole peaceful answer to the decades-long conflict in the Middle East.

Living conditions in the besieged Gaza have only worsened in recent days, especially after Israel began its military operation on the Rafah crossing that had been a key entry point for humanitarian aid.
