Medical personnel from the Indonesian Military will be heading to Egypt and, if security condition permits, the Gaza Strip.
team of medical personnel from the Indonesian Military (TNI) is heading to Egypt on Friday to take part in a humanitarian mission to treat injured Palestinians from the neighboring Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip currently being pummeled by the Israeli military.
The team comprises 25 medical workers who will be deployed to a floating hospital owned by the United Arab Emirates in El Arish, Egypt, the Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
Another team of 15 personnel is planned to go to a field hospital in Rafah, Gaza, pending security conditions.
Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto briefed the team on Wednesday, which included doctors, nurses, midwives and other medical staff.
He thanked them for their commitment and wished them well on their mission.
“What is happening in Gaza deeply affects our sense of humanity. Indonesia must show solidarity, humanity and support the right of nations to live freely and determine their own future without oppression,” Prabowo said as quoted in the statement.
The ministry’s Defense Strategy Director General Maj. Gen. Ujang Darwis said that Prabowo had instructed to prepare field facilities for the health personnel on this humanitarian mission.
