ndonesia has secured a spot at the 2025 AFC U-17 Asian Cup finals after finishing on Sunday with a goalless draw against Australia during their Group G qualifying match at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha, Qatar.

The 0-0 result means both teams have advanced to the finals in Saudi Arabia next April, with Indonesia and Australia each accumulating seven points from two wins and one draw.

However, Indonesia coach Nova Arianto expressed dissatisfaction over the national team's performance against Australia.

"Regarding the match result [against Australia], honestly, I feel embarrassed as a coach about our performance. But once again, this is what we have to accept and move forward," Nova said in a statement from the Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI), as quoted by CNN Indonesia.

"At halftime, I heard that a draw would be enough for us to advance, so we adopted a [suitable] tactical approach. We focused on defending our own area and aimed to counterattack when we regained possession," he said.

Nova observed that the Australian side also showed little motivation of pushing into Indonesia's half, resulting in a relatively uneventful match after the 60th minute.

"Australia too, when they had the ball, seemed reluctant to attack us," he said.

"It turned into a game that, honestly, I wasn't particularly fond of. But regardless, I'm thankful that we were able to qualify."

Australia secured the group’s top spot as a result of its superior goal difference vis-à-vis Indonesia in their two previous matches.

The Joeys won 19-0 against the Northern Mariana Islands and 3-1 against Kuwait, while the Young Garudas won 10-0 against the Northern Mariana Islands and 1-0 against Kuwait, leading to a goal difference of 21 for Australia and 11 for Indonesia.

As the Group G leader, Australia is guaranteed a spot in the U-17 Asian Cup finals, as are the winners of all 10 groups in the U-17 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Indonesia follows suit after making the cut among the best runners-up in the qualifiers, which ran from Oct. 19 to 27. The Young Garudas clinched third among the top five runners-up, which automatically advance to next year’s finals.
